The General Assembly is in recess this week. The House and Senate return to session of June 6.

Last week the House passed two bills of interest to criminal justice practitioners:

Neglect Of Care-Dependent Persons: House Bill 1053 (Gingrich-R-Lebanon) expanding the offense of neglect of care-dependent person was passed by the House by a vote of 198-0.

Sexting: House Bill 815 (Grove-R-York) further providing for the offense of sexting by minors was passed by the House by a vote of 178-20. The offense is graded as an M-2.

Both bills have been referred to the Senate.

Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille this week praised the PA Legal Aid Network for the positive performance audit received from the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee on its oversight of Access to Justice funds. Click PDF to read news releaseLBFConLegalAid_052611
