A blog of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section

Click here for a copy of the materials from this past Tuesday’s lunchtime CLE, Criminal Court Cost Collections: How to Advise Clients Facing Collections Under Philadelphia’s New Court Payment System.

Also, Bradley S. Bridge, Esq., from the Defender Association of Philadelphia mentioned the United States Supreme Court case of Bearden v. Georgia during the CLE, a case that says a court cannot sentence a defendant to jail for a violation of probation for the failure to pay fines, costs, etc., where the failure to pay was because of the inability to pay.  Mr. Bridge has forwarded to us a copy of the case, which can be viewed by clicking here.

Have a great weekend, everyone.  See you at the next meeting.
