A bill to create an Appellate Court Nominating Commission has been introduced by Representative Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster).

House Bill 1816
has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. The Commission would have members appointed by the Governor, the majority and minority caucuses of both house of the General Assembly, and various civic groups. It would make recommendations to the Governor for nominations to vacancies to the appellate courts. The need for diversity on the Bench is recognized in the bill.

The House returns to session on September 26. The Senate returns to session on September 19.
