Judicial Retirement: House Bill 79 (Harper-R-Montgomery) would amend the Constitution to raise the retirement age for judges from 70 to 75. A summary and House Fiscal Note are available. It was signed into law as Pamphlet Law Resolution No. 3. The bill has to be passed by the next General Assembly before it can be placed on the ballot for approval of the voters.
Attorney Background Checks: Senate Bill 894 (Alloway-R-Franklin) requiring background checks of individuals applying for admission to the PA Bar was amended on the Senate Floor and was passed by the Senate. The bill now goes to the House for action.
Identity Theft: House Bill 714 (Baker-R- Tioga) further providing for the offense of identity theft– summary— was reported from the Senate Judiciary Committee and is now on the Senate Calendar for action.
Online Impersonation: House Bill 764 (Watson-R-Bucks) further providing for damages in actions for online impersonation– summary and House Fiscal Note— was amended and reported from the Senate Judiciary Committee and was then referred to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
October 29– Senate Judiciary Committee holds a hearing on legal representation of the indigent. Koppers Building, 436 7th Ave, 9th Floor, Grant Room, Pittsburgh. 1:00.
November 12– House Judiciary Committee holds a hearing on Senate Bill 150 (Pileggi-R-Delaware) further providing for the collection and use of DNA. Room 140. 10:00.
