Session Schedule

The House and Senate will be conducting hearings on the Governor’s proposed budget for the next month.  Regular sessions of the House and Senate resume March 10.

Bills Moving

House

Arson Penalties: Senate Bill 1024 (Rafferty-R-Montgomery) further providing for arson penalties was reported out of the House Rules Committee on concurrence and is now on the House Calendar for action.  A summary and House Fiscal Note are available.

Sexual Offender Registration: House Bill 1874 (Farry-R-Bucks) providing for notice when a sexual offender is receiving counseling was removed from the Table and referred into and out of the House Appropriations Committee and is now on the House Calendar for action.  A summary and House Fiscal Note are available.

Megan’s Law: House Bill 1951 (Regan-R-Cumberland) prohibiting Megan’s Law violators from being eligible for public assistance was reported from the House Appropriations Committee and is now on the House Calendar for action.  A summary and House Fiscal Note are available.

Senate

Driving Drunk: Senate Bill 1036 (Rafferty-R-Montgomery) further providing for license limitations for driving drunk or under the influence of drugs was amended and reported out of the Senate Transportation Committee and is now on the Senate Calendar for action.

US Justice Department to to Give  Married Same Sex Couples Equal Protection

By Sari Horwitz, Washington Post, February 8, 2014The Justice Department on Monday will instruct all of its employees across the country, for the first time, to give lawful same-sex marriages sweeping equal protection under the law in every program it administers, from courthouse proceedings to prison visits to the compensation of surviving spouses of public safety officers.In a new policy memo, the department will spell out the rights of same-sex couples, including the right to decline to give testimony that might incriminate their spouses, even if their marriages are not recognized in the state where the couple lives.
