Retirement Ages For Judges: House Bill 89 (Harper-R-Montgomery) (House Fiscal Note) and House Bill 90 (Harper-R-Montgomery) (House Fiscal Note) increasing the retirement age for judges from 70 to 75. House Bill 89 was signed into law as Act 62. The issue will be placed before the voters in the 2016 primary election as a referendum to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution.
Community Service: Senate Bill 130 (Gordner-R-Columbia) further providing for the sentence of community service was reported out of the House Appropriations Committee and passed by the House without amendment. The bill now goes to the Governor for his action. A House Fiscal Note and summary is available.
Jury Member Addresses: House Bill 1626 (Benninghoff-R-Mifflin) exempting jury members from public access was reported out of the House Appropriations Committee and passed by the House. A House Fiscal Note and summary is available. The bill now goes to the Senate for action.
Online Gaming: House Bill 649 (Payne-R-Dauphin) which would legalize and regulate Internet gaming in Pennsylvania was Tabled.
Nominations: The Law and Justice Committee favorably reported out of the nomination of Tyree Blocker as State Police Commissioner to the full Senate.
Corrections/Parole Consolidation: Senate Bill 859 (Greenleaf-R- Montgomery) consolidation of Corrections and Parole was passed by the Senate and now goes to the House for action.
