A blog of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section

In an effort to process as many petitions as quickly and efficiently as possible, the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division is partnering with the Mayor’s Office, Community Legal Services, the Office of the District Attorney of the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas – Criminal Section to conduct a pro bono criminal record expungement and sealing clinic at six locations throughout Philadelphia from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016.

At least 100 volunteer attorneys, as well as paralegals and law school students, are needed to process petitions on Nov. 12, 2016, which will require a commitment of a one-hour training session and four hours the day of the clinic, between 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Another 25+ attorneys will be needed to handle subsequent hearings to be scheduled on a later date, reserved by the court solely for expungement and sealing petitions, which will require an additional estimated six-hour commitment.

The Philadelphia Bar Association CLE credit will offer ONE FREE SUBSTANTIVE CLE credit for the training sessions for attorneys who will volunteer on Nov. 12. For more information about the CLE training sessions, please see below or visit: GetExpunged.org. If you have questions about the Expungement Clinic, please contact co-chairs John Coyle and Meghan Claiborne at phillygetexpunged@gmail.com.
